Hybrid models arise when fundamental aspects of Scrum are tweaked in favor of business’ preferences. While a hybrid approach may work and seem optimal in some cases, it may result in bad outcomes. This is because:

  • There is little documentation that will apply to your custom hybrid model. Thus, you will not be able to rely on the broader Scrum community for help and you will be forced to invent much of your process from the ground up.
  • Hybrid models can be confusing because many people already have an understanding of Scrum which they may accidentally use instead of your custom approach. Onboarding time for new team members may take even longer as well.
  • You likely won’t implement a process that works at the start and it will require many tweaks until it functions the way you want it to function.
